BKPM Head Bahlil Optimistic 2020 Investment to Meet Target

Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that he is optimistic that BKPM can realize the remaining 2020 investment target of Rp205.6 trillion in the fourth quarter.

"We're still calculating, and we will announce the result on January 25, 2021. In 2020, hopefully, we can achieve the target of Rp817.2 trillion, and now only  Rp205.6 trillion is left, ”said Bahlil at the 11th Kompas100 CEO Forum online event, Thursday (21/1).

BKPM, said Bahlil, had initially set an investment target of Rp886 trillion for 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the target was revised to Rp817.2 trillion. In the January-September 2020 period, the investment had reached Rp611.6 trillion.

"What is interesting is that in almost all countries in the world, according to various data submitted by world survey agencies, foreign direct investment (FDI) has decreased by around 30-40%. But, FDI in Indonesia has only decreased by 7-8%," he explained.

As of the end of September 2020, Bahlil noted that the top five countries invested in Indonesia, namely Singapore, with total investment worth US $ 7 billion, followed by China, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea with a total investment amounting to US $ 3.5 billion, US $ 2.5 billion, US $ 2.1 billion,  and US $ 1.1 billion, respectively.

The spread of investment both in Java and outside Java is already balanced. For example, investment realization in West Java was at Rp86.3 trillion, DKI Jakarta Rp72.5 trillion, East Java Rp66.5 trillion, Banten Rp42 trillion, Central Java Rp37.5 trillion, and others reaching Rp306.2 trillion.

"Infrastructure which has been developed, during the leadership of Mr. Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla since five years ago, had a positive impact on providing new options for investors," he added.

Based on the sectors, the investment's composition was the primary sector reached Rp71.9 trillion (11.8%), secondary Rp. 201.9 trillion (33%), and tertiary reached Rp. 338.7 trillion (55.4%).
