Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia managed to make a profit for the period attributable to owners in the first quarter of this year, amounting to Rp32.376 billion, from a loss in the same period last year of Rp303.472 billion.

According to the company's financial report released on Friday (6/3), the ability to turn around in profit was supported by the high revenue gain of around 26.11% to Rp4.346 trillion from Rp3.446 trillion.

However, the cost of revenue jumped by around 11.87%, to Rp3.448 trillion from Rp3.082 trillion.

KAI also had to bear the foreign exchange loss of Rp15.146 billion from the previous profit of around Rp25.912 billion. As a result, financial income shrunk by around 29.67% to Rp25,460 billion from Rp36,204 billion.

Operating expenses also increased by 19.43% to Rp685.868 billion from Rp574.242 billion. Despite this, KAI managed to turn a profit of Rp211.903 billion, reversing a loss of Rp210.697 billion.
