Delta Variant Spread Poses Risk of Economic Loss in 2nd Semester


Finance Minister Sri Mulyani stated that entering the third quarter of 2021, and the national economy was faced with the challenge of increasing the spread of the COVID-19 delta variant.

"The increase in positive cases and deaths of COVID-19 caused by the delta variant has prompted the implementation of emergency mobility restrictions PPKM," she said in her statement on Friday (6/8).

Sri Mulyani estimates that the implementation of emergency PPKM will reduce economic activity, especially consumption, investment, and exports.

By sector, emergency PPKM will also have an impact on sectors that depend on community mobility, such as trade, transportation, and hotels and restaurants.

"Therefore, the spread of the COVID-19 delta variant can be a downside risk for the prospects for economic growth in the second half of 2021," she explained.
