Jakarta - SOE Minister Erick Thohir plans to launch 5G technology which will be applied at the Freeport Indonesia mine in 2022.

"In accordance with the transformation in the world related to the industrial revolution 4.0, we plan to inaugurate 5G mining in six months," Erick said in an official statement on Tuesday (12/10).

He claimed that 5G technology in the mining sector was the first in Southeast Asia. The technology is the result of a collaboration between Freeport Indonesia and the Telkom Group.

"The function is other than to maintain operational security, because this is a deep mine category, so it is very important to protect the workers in it," he added.

Interestingly, 5G technology will increase the integration of hyper connect network connectivity. Moreover, this technology is also equipped with an autonomous car.
