Rupiah May Weaken to Dollar on Concerns over US Tapering

Jakarta - The exchange rate of the rupiah has the opportunity to weaken in line with the statement of Fed Chair Jerome Powell at the end of last week that the Fed is still on the path of reducing stimulus.

"This tapering plan can encourage the strengthening of the US dollar and depress other exchange rates," said Money Market Observer Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

In addition, market concerns about hyperinflation in the world triggered by rising energy prices and the still high global COVID-19 cases could restrain the pace of economic growth and become a driver of the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate and other risky assets.

Today, the rupiah exchange rate has the potential to weaken to the range of 14160 per US dollar, with potential support in the range of 14100 per US dollar.
