Rupiah Seen to Weaken Against Dollar on US Tapering Concerns

Jakarta - The rupiah's exchange rate against the US dollar on Tuesday (2/11) is likely to experience pressure triggered by market concerns about tapering.  Risk-off sentiment led market players to temporarily leave the exchange rate of the rupiah and other emerging markets.

"Today it seems that the tapering issue will still dominate the market. The Fed will issue a decision on November 4 in the morning," said Money Market Observer Ariston Tjendra in Jakarta.

He explained that this tapering was the first step in monetary tightening in the US, which was experiencing high inflation and an improving employment situation.

The potential for a weakening rupiah to around 14,300 per US dollar, while the potential for support is 14,200 per US dollar.

On the other hand, the market is still quite optimistic about the current economic conditions, as evidenced by some of the global stock indexes still strengthening.
